San Pietro di Castello Feast day
It is the most traditional patronal festival around the lagoon. It is celebrated on the beatuful island of
San Pietro, part of the Castello borough, which you can reach by walking from Riva dei Sette Martiri down Via Garibaldi. A long wooden bridge crosses over to the small island (called
Olivolo in ancient times) that hosts a church with the same name, where until 1807 the Venice Patriarch had his offices. The town square where the holidays is celebrated is unique for its ruban characteristics, such as its wide opening to the canal, the large, unpaved, gardens areas, and especially the pleasing play of colours that only opne air and water can create. Just that is a good enough reason to come see it.
San Pietro di Castello Feast is normally on at the end of June.
